He was tragically killed in an M1 motorway crash in 1969. He was subsequently replaced by another fine drummer, Dave Mattacks. Martin may not have been the best drummer around.

Later that Summer Jack Bruce dedicated his solo album (Songs for a Tailor) to the memory of Jeannie. Martin's drumming on the first three Fairport album's is tasteful and exquisite and a very important element of their early sound.
