Embroidering the fabric of “Hee Haw” with stories and songs from Cousin Clem’s hometown of “Kornfield Kounty,” Gordie Tapp was a master of versatility. With a penchant for tickling funny bones, Tapp was equally at home with tear-jerking ballads or thigh-slapping skits.
Hee Haw was carried weekly on 205 stations and became the No. 1 TV show taken nationally on a non-network basis. It turned out the switch from network to syndication was the best thing that could have happened to the show – from such humble beginnings emerged a series that endured long enough to sink into the lives of several generations.
