Joe Morello è conosciuto principalmente per aver fatto parte del The Dave Brubeck Quartet. Fu lui, con il sassofonista Paul Desmond - che di Take Five era l'autore -, ad ispirare Brubeck durante la realizzazione in studio di Take Five , uno dei più celebri (e dei più eseguiti), classici del jazz.

Morello was born July 17, 1929 in Springfield (Massachusetts). He began playing violin at six years old and, three years later, was featured in the Mendelssohn Concerto with the Boston Symphony Orchestra. At age 15, he switched to drums. He first studied with Joe Sefcik, a show drummer, and then he continued his studies with George Lawrence Stone.
Joe Morello fought every step of the way, battling bandmates and physical limitations, never allowing anything to alter his path. But the drummer faced his final hurdle on Saturday, March 12, 2011, when he died of heart failure at his home in northern New Jersey, leaving behind legions of fans and followers whose lives were forever changed by this iconic drumming legend.
