Hän oli ehdolla parhaan naispääosan Oscar-palkinton saajaksi roolistaan Elia Kazanin elokuvassa Veren perintö ( Pinky, 1949 ). Crain aloitti uransa 1940-luvun ensimmäisellä puoliskolla.
