I'm pretty sure I only understood 60-70% of what I was watching, but the story of the man who loses his way and then finds it again was already compelling. As a young adult, I read the novel by John D. MacDonald, and saw other films by Nunez, and so had a retroactive fascination with this film even though my memories of it were dim.
