Much of the film is devoted to comedy at the expense of a larger-than-life camp commander who was apparently based on a real-life character. Jack Hawkins appears in an early role as a likeable officer, but his character is involved a lengthy flashback sequence which really drags the pacing down. 7/10. Adequate WWI escape film.
