Karl Hanke wurde am 24. Aug. 1903 in Lauban in Schlesien geboren. Nach mehrjähriger praktischer Arbeit im Maschinenbau und in der Mühlenindustrie absolvierte er das Mühlenbautechnikum in Dippoldiswalde und das Berufspädagogische Institut in Berlin und trat im Jahre 1928 als Gewerbelehrer in den Berufsschuldienst der Stadt Berlin ein.
