Richard Owen (Lancaster, 20 de julio de 1804-Londres, 18 de diciembre de 1892) fue un biólogo, paleontólogo y anatomista comparativo inglés. Fue el introductor en Inglaterra de la anatomía trascendental desarrollada en Francia y Alemania. Owen nació en Lancaster, Inglaterra y fue educado en el colegio Lancaster Royal Grammar.
Owen wurde am 20. Juli 1804 als Sohn eines Westindien-Kaufmanns in Lancaster geboren. Sein Vater starb 1809, als Sohn Richard fünf Jahre alt war. Nach seiner Schulzeit (1810-1820) ging Owen bei verschiedenen Chirurgen und Apothekern in Lancaster in die Lehre (1820-1824). Nach dieser Ausbildung studierte er ein halbes Jahr in Edinburgh.
