Die Ellen Stragow Gallery in New York ermöglichte dem Künstler 1976 seine erste Einzelausstellung. Prince beschäftigt sich überwiegend mit den trivialen Mythen der amerikanischen Alltagskultur.

Er wurde in der Panamakanalzone geboren und wuchs im Bundesstaat Massachusetts auf. 1977 zog er nach New York, wo er für den Direktvermarkter Time Life arbeitete und sein Interesse an Werbung geweckt wurde.
