Dave McKean was born in Taplow, Berkshire in 1963. He attended Berkshire College of Art and Design from 1982-86 and, before leaving, started working as an illustrator. the first Photoshop comics covers for the hugely influential Sandman series, and the first original online interactive narrative, Club Salsa ). In 1986 he met author Neil Gaiman.

Dave McKean arbeitet in seiner Story mit wenig Text, der recht poetisch anmutet und damit eine dichte Atmosphäre erschafft, die eine gewisse Sogwirkung ausübt. Jedoch lässt sich die Story nicht so recht greifen. Alles spielt sich auf einer Gefühlsebene ab, die sehr verschwommen, aber nichtsdestotrotz auch intensiv daherkommt.
