Roebling, an engineer, had developed his own method for weaving wire cables, which became one of the leading constructional components of his bridge designs.
Die Brooklyn Bridge (früher hieß sie New York and Brooklyn Bridge) war nach ihrem Bau 1883 die längste Hängebrücke der Welt. Sie ist insgesamt 1.833 Meter lang, die Spannweite beträgt 486 Meter. Sie verband New York mit seiner Nachbarstadt Brooklyn, das damals noch eigenständig war. Der Bau der Brücke kostete damals 18 Millionen Dollar.
Der Bau der Brooklyn Bridge von 1870 bis 1883 ist eine interessante aber auch sehr tragische Geschichte.
