10. Sept. 2023 · Located in the Golestan Province of Iran, Gonbad-e-Kavus city is famous for its historical monuments and unique architecture, which attract tourists from all over the world. Gonbad-e-Kavus in the center of the Turkmen desert and between the two main branches of the Gorgan River on the south and north side, is located at a height of 52 meters above sea level.
The name of this town is related to Qabous Ebne Voshmgir, one of the Al-e-Ziar rulers. Jorjan was destroyed by Teimoorian and Mongol attacks, the city of Gonbad was made next to it. In 1937 it was named Gonbad Kavoos. It's original plan was executed in the early Pahlavi period and is example of a new city of Iran.
