Lower E's and play strings 8765 on the first fret, slide to the 2nd, 3rd, then up to the 9th and back down to the 8th without re-striking. Keep your E's lowered the whole time. In 1976, it was recorded by Willie Nelson, and his version also reached number one on the Billboard Hot Country Chart. The girl in question had to be well-heeled, because Frizzell warned, "If you run short of money, I'll run short of time / You got no more money, Honey, I've no more time."
