I thought it was probably meant to be like a musical jewellery box type thing! you wind them up and when you open them they play a tinkly little tune and there's usually a dancer spinning in the middle. they use clockwork which I'd guess for the bleeders video is getting those steampunky Victorian cogs (forgive the pun!) turning. 2.
