Prinz Henry William Frederick Albert, 1. Duke of Gloucester KG, KT, KP, GCStJ, GCMG, GCVO, PC war der dritte Sohn des britischen Monarchen Georg V. Prince Henry, Duke of Gloucester (Henry William Frederick Albert; 31 March 1900 – 10 June 1974) was a member of the British royal family. He was the third son of King George V and Queen Mary, and was a younger brother of kings Edward VIII and George VI. He served as Governor-General of Australia from 1945 to 1947, the only prince to hold the post.

Prinz Henry wurde Verbindungsoffizier und später stellvertretender Kommandeur der 20th Armoured Brigade. 1940 wurde er bei einem Luftangriff leicht verletzt. Ab 1937 übernahm der Prinz einen der neu geschaffenen Posten als Staatsrat ( englisch Counsellors of State ).

Prince Henry, Duke of Gloucester. As a child, Henry experienced ill health, suffering similar complaints of his older brother Albert whom he much resembled. He also had knocked knees and had to wear painful leg splints. He was an extremely nervous socially awkward child, and in common with his brother suffered from a speech disorder.
The younger brother of King George III, Prince William Henry (1743-1805) was created Duke of Gloucester and Edinburgh and Earl of Connaught in 1764. He wanted to pursue an active military career, but neither his physical stamina nor his mental capacity were sufficient to carry a commander's position on active service.
