Vor 3 Tagen · Ecclesiastical. (1). The Abbey Church of St. Alban, on high ground on the S.W. side of the town, is a large cruciform building, and one of the longest cathedrals in England. The oldest parts are built chiefly of flint rubble, Roman bricks and Barnack stone, taken from the ruins of Verulamium, and in the later work Totternhoe stone is largely used.
Vor 5 Tagen · The church is of especial interest on account of its early history, which is in many respects the same as that of St. Michael's Church, but this building has been less restored. Among the fittings the 15th-century font and the 16th-century lectern are especially noticeable.
