The Free Design waren ein Familien-Projekt, alle Mitglieder der Gruppe gehörten zur Familie Dedrick: Christopher Dedrick (1947–2010), der die meisten Songs schrieb, seine Schwester Sandy und ihr Bruder Bruce waren die Urbesetzung.
