Raymundo "Ray" Barretto Pagán (April 29, 1929 – February 17, 2006) was an American percussionist and bandleader of Puerto Rican descent. Throughout his career as a percussionist, he played a wide variety of Latin music styles, as well as Latin jazz.
American conga player, drummer, percussionist, bandleader, composer and producer. Father of Ray Barretto Jnr. Member of Tito Puente's orchestra from 1957 to 1960, he formed his own orchestra in 1961. Highly demanded session musician for labels like Prestige, Blue Note, Riverside and Columbia and member of Fania All Stars.

He became music director of the Bravisimo television program and took part in the multi-idiom, all-star, anti-apartheid Sun City recording and video in 1985. In 1992, he unveiled a new Latin jazz sextet, New World Spirit, which made some absorbingly unpredictable albums for Concord Picante.
