Sir Anthony Alfred Caro OM CBE (8 March 1924 – 23 October 2013) was an English abstract sculptor whose work is characterised by assemblages of metal using 'found' industrial objects. He began as a member of the modernist school, having worked with Henry Moore early in his career. [1]
D uring a career that spanned more than six decades, Anthony Caro (1924-2013) achieved international recognition as one of the world’s leading sculptors. In 1960, he abandoned his earlier figurative way of working and began making abstract sculptures in welded and painted steel.
Anthony Caro (1924 - 2013) played a pivotal role in the development of twentieth century sculpture. After studying sculpture at the Royal Academy Schools in London, he worked as assistant to Henry Moore.

Sir Anthony Caro (1924–2013) gained recognition in the 1960s for his brightly painted steel works, informed by the colour field trends of American art. Although renowned for these sculptures in steel, Caro produced works of equal importance in iron, aluminium, brass, bronze, wood and paper.
