Vor 2 Tagen · In the Netherlands itself "West-Frisian" refers to the Hollandic dialect, with a Frisian substrate, spoken in the northern part of the province of North-Holland known as West-Friesland, as well as "West-Frisians" referring to its speakers, not to the language or inhabitants of the Frisian part of the country. Historically the whole Dutch North Seacoast was known as Frisia.

Pier Gerlofs Donia was born around 1480 in Kimswerd, a village near the city of Harlingen, in the region of Frisia, which today belongs to the Netherlands but then also encompassed parts of present-day Germany.
