Vor 2 Tagen · In 1539, following judicial arbitration, the manor was settled on Dorothy for life with remainder to Edward Seymour, earl of Hertford, later duke of Somerset (d. 1552). (fn. 31) After the duke's execution and attainder the manor passed to his son Edward, created earl of Hertford in 1559.

Seymour's son Edward, later earl of Hertford, successfully claimed some of his late father's lands and was confirmed in possession of Meare in 1582.
