He was one of the first, if not the first, to use effects like fuzz, tape echo and a rotary speaker on his pedal steel and he was called the “Hendrix of pedal steel” by some at the time (this was the late 60’s/early 70’s). If you’ve never listened to the album “Gilded Palace of Sin” by the Flying Burrito Bros I highly recommend it.
