Das St Hilda’s College wurde ursprünglich 1893 von Dorothea Beale, Rektorin von Cheltenham Ladies’ College, als Frauencollege gegründet. Der Name ist von der Klostergründerin St. Hilda von Whitbyinspiriert. Seit 2008 ist das College auch für männliche Studenten geöffnet, bis dahin war es nur Frauen zugänglich.

St Hilda’s College was founded in 1893 as a hall of residence of women, and remained a women’s college until 2008, making it the latest and last college to allow all genders. The college stretches along the River Cherwell, and beautiful views of the river and Botanical Gardens can be seen from the college.
