Die Meiji-Universität (japanisch 明治大学, Meiji daigaku, kurz: Meidai (明大)) ist eine der prestigeträchtigsten privaten Universitäten Japans. Sie hat drei Standorte: den Surugadai-Campus in Chiyoda , den Izumi-Campus in Suginami und den Ikuta-Campus in Kawasaki (Kanagawa) .
Meiji University is the country's most applied-to university, with applications to its undergraduate degrees amounting to approximately 100,000 annually. Meiji is a part of the Top Global University Project of Japan's Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology.
Die Meiji Universität wurde im Jahre 1881 (Jahr 14 der Meiji-Ära) unter dem Namen „Meiji Rechtsschule“ von drei jungen Juristen gegründet. Sie zählt zu den prominentesten Privatuniversitäten Japans.
Die Meiji-Gakuin-Universität ( japanisch 明治学院大学, Meiji gakuin daigaku) wurde 1863 als christliche Hochschule in Tokio und Yokohama gegründet. Gründer und ihr erster Präsident war der amerikanische presbyterianische Priester James Curtis Hepburn.
Established as the Meiji Law School in 1881, the university was founded amidst Japan’s rapid development into a modern industrial nation in the 19th century, and was an institution established with the purpose of educating the future leaders of Japan.
