Shadrach in the Furnace is a science fiction novel by American writer Robert Silverberg, first published as a serial in Analog Science Fiction and Fact magazine in the August, September, and October 1976 issues. It was subsequently published by Bobbs Merrill in 1976.

Who Were Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego? The first time we read about these young men, we meet King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon who besieged Jerusalem.
Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego (Hebrew names Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah) are figures from chapter 3 of the biblical Book of Daniel. In the narrative, the three Jewish men are thrown into a fiery furnace by Nebuchadnezzar II , King of Babylon for refusing to bow to the king's image.
