Alcée Fortier High School was a high school in Uptown New Orleans, Louisiana that served grades 8–12. It was located five blocks away from McMain Secondary School. [1] History. The school opened in 1931 and was named for the renowned professor of Romance Languages at Tulane, Alcée Fortier. [2] . Originally Fortier was an all-boys school. [1]

Fortier taught French in the city high school for a time. He was hired as principal in the preparatory department of the University of Louisiana. [3] In 1880 Fortier was elected professor of French in the University of Louisiana. He was reelected when it became Tulane University.

4. Juni 2021 · The Alcée Fortier school building on Freret Street, now home to Lusher Charter School, will be renamed soon, according to NOLA Public Schools. Alcée Fortier High School closed in 2006, but Fortier’s name remains with the building that now serves as Lusher’s secondary school campus.
