Proculus Julius is a figure in the legendary history of the Roman Kingdom. His reported visitation by King Romulus , Rome 's putative founder and first ruler , shortly after the king's disappearance convinces the people of Rome to accept Romulus' divinity and the claims by the senate that he had been taken up by the gods in a whirlwind.
Gaius Iulius Proculus (vollständige Namensform Gaius Iulius Marci filius Voltinia Proculus) war ein im 2. Jahrhundert n. Chr. lebender römischer Politiker. Durch eine Inschrift, die in Antium gefunden wurde und die bei der Epigraphik-Datenbank Clauss-Slaby auf 109/117 datiert wird, ist seine Laufbahn bekannt.
Praenomen (P. Iulius, ein Zeitgenosse des Romulus [1]), und sekundär Cognomen. Der Bildung nach ein Deminutivum (älter * prokelo- ) zum Stamm * proko- ( klass. procus “Bewerber, Freier”), bedeutet es urspr. etwa “wer (das Erbe?) fordert, beansprucht”.
