Carey was a founding member of The Flamingos, whose roots can be traced back to Chicago’s south side, circa 1950. Jacob “Jake” Carey and Ezekiel “Zeke” Carey are often noted as being cousins, but they weren’t really directly related at all.
He has released 2 CD's, Played in Peoria and Surfing Thru Venice, both available on this site, as well as Spotify and Apple music. With his 3rd CD to be released shortly, Zeke Carey , Back on Bleeker, Live at the Bitter End. He has opened up for a number of National acts over the years such as Willie nile, graham parker and steve forbert.
The principal members were Zeke Carey (b. January 24, 1933, Bluefield, Virginia, U.S.—d. December 24, 1999, Bethesda, Maryland), Jake Carey (b. September 9, 1926, Pulaski, Virginia—d. Nachdem Jake Carey 1996 gestorben war, übernahm sein Sohn J.C. seinen Platz. 2001 starb dann auch Zeke Carey, stattdessen kehrte Hunt zurück. Im gleichen Jahr wurden die Flamingos in die Rock and Roll Hall of Fame aufgenommen. Am 21. August 2009 starb Johnny Carter im Alter von 75 Jahren.
