Dilvish, the Damned is a collection of fantasy stories by American writer Roger Zelazny, first published in 1982. Its contents were originally published as a series of separate short stories in various fantasy magazines. Prior to publication, Zelazny's working title for the book was Nine Black Doves.

The overall story of a once-and-future damned soldier and his metal horse Black is good enough, but it is the insouciant, reckless, and slightly world-weary dialog that is the capstone of the work. For a Demon, poor Black seems endlessly dismayed by the lack of care Dilvish shows for his own safety. Very much worth reading!

12. Sept. 2017 · Dilvish, the Damned is a 1983 fixup of all eleven Dilvish short stories. The first was originally published in Fantastic in 1965, and the last two first saw light of day in this collection. “Passage to Dilfar” opens the book, and Dilvish is met escaping from a lost battle.
