The overall story of a once-and-future damned soldier and his metal horse Black is good enough, but it is the insouciant, reckless, and slightly world-weary dialog that is the capstone of the work. For a Demon, poor Black seems endlessly dismayed by the lack of care Dilvish shows for his own safety. Very much worth reading!
