Alexander III (Russian: Александр III Александрович Романов, romanized: Aleksandr III Aleksandrovich Romanov; 10 March 1845 – 1 November 1894) was Emperor of Russia, King of Congress Poland and Grand Duke of Finland from 13 March 1881 until his death in 1894.
Alexander III, emperor of Russia (1881–94), opponent of representative government, and supporter of Russian nationalism. He adopted programs, based on Orthodoxy and autocracy, that included the Russification of national minorities in the Russian Empire as well as persecution of the non-Orthodox religious groups.
