John Sidney "Slew" McCain Sr. (9 August 1884 – 6 September 1945) was a United States Navy admiral and the patriarch of the McCain military family. McCain held several command assignments during the Pacific War of World War II. He was a pioneer of aircraft carrier operations.
His father and his paternal grandfather, John S. McCain Sr., were also Naval Academy graduates and both became four-star admirals in the United States Navy. [10] The McCain family moved with their father as he took various naval postings in the United States and in the Pacific.
