Russell Malone (born November 8, 1963) is an American jazz guitarist. He began working with Jimmy Smith in 1988 and went on to work with Harry Connick Jr. and Diana Krall throughout the 1990s.

11. Juni 2022 · It was myself, Ray Brown, Harry Connick, Jr., Shannon Powell on drums and Ned Goold on tenor saxophone. But Harry ended up not showing up on time. He ended up being three hours late for the rehearsal. So that left just us, and provided us with an opportunity to spend time hanging out with Ray Brown.
After two years with Smith, he went on to join Harry Connick Jr.'s orchestra, a position he held from 1990-94, appearing on three of Connick's recordings.
He's worked with the great Jimmy Smith, Harry Connick Jr, Diana Krall and is part of Ron Carter 's Trio along with Donald Vega. With echoes of Wes Montgomery and Grant Green, he's developed a sound all of his own.
