George Granville Leveson-Gower, 1st Duke of Sutherland KG, PC (9 January 1758 – 19 July 1833), known as Viscount Trentham from 1758 to 1786, as Earl Gower from 1786 to 1803 and as the Marquess of Stafford from 1803 to 1833, was an English politician, diplomat, landowner and patron of the arts from the Leveson-Gower family.
Am 28. Januar 1833, wenige Monate vor seinem Tod, wurde er zum Duke of Sutherland erhoben. Er starb am 19. Juli 1833 auf Dunrobin Castle und wurde in der Kathedrale von Dornoch bestattet. Leveson-Gower galt als reichster Brite des 19. Jahrhunderts.

Background and education. A member of the Leveson-Gower family headed by the Duke of Sutherland, Leveson-Gower was the son of the Honourable Frederick Leveson-Gower, third son of Granville Leveson-Gower, 1st Earl Granville. His mother was Lady Margaret Compton, daughter of Spencer Compton, 2nd Marquess of Northampton.
