Leben. Patitucci begann im Alter von zehn Jahren, E-Bass zu spielen, mit zwölf Jahren folgten erste Kompositionen, mit fünfzehn Jahren der Kontrabass und ein Jahr später das Klavier. Er studierte klassischen Bass an der San Francisco State University und Long Beach State University und begann 1980 seine Karriere als Studiomusiker in Los Angeles.

Feb. 1998 · Jazz heavyweights Michael Brecker, John Patitucci, Jack DeJohnette and pianist-producer Gil Goldstein push Stern to new heights here, and I've come to feel that it's one of Stern's best. You have to be one confident guitarist to tackle Coltrane's "Giant Steps" and Sonny Rollins' "Oleo," but Stern rips through each with aplomb.
