Raymond Joseph Smith (12 March 1930 – 18 February 2008) was an American educator, author, and book editor. He was for more than 30 years the editor of Ontario Review, a literary magazine, and the Ontario Review Press, a literary book publisher. He was married to the American author Joyce Carol Oates .

Joyce Carol Oates (* 16. Juni 1938 in Lockport, New York) ist eine US-amerikanische Schriftstellerin. Gelegentlich publiziert Oates auch unter den Pseudonymen Rosamond Smith und Lauren Kelly . Oates’ erster Roman erschien im Jahr 1963.
In 1961 she married Raymond J. Smith (died 2008), a fellow English student who himself became a professor and an editor. With him she published The Ontario Review, a literary magazine.
