The group originally formed in Los Angeles in 1964 as the Blokes, by John Noreen, Jim Groshong, Bruce Bowdin, and Bill Fleming. They first performed surf music, then switched to folk-rock and Byrds' covers. De Rose joined in late 1966 or early 1967, and the group was soon renamed to The Rose Garden.
ABOUT. The Rose Garden was a short-lived male-female folk rock quintet formed in Los Angeles in 1967 consisting of Bruce Bowdin, William Fleming, James Groshong, John Noreen, and lead singer Diana De Rose (b. July 29, 1948).
The Rose Garden story begins in Los Angeles in 1964, when teenage guitarists John Noreen and Jim Groshong got together with drummer Bruce Bowdin and bass player Bill Fleming to form a group called the Blokes, in hopes of capitalizing on the popularity of the Beatles and other British rock bands.
