Prescott Niles (born May 2, 1954) is an American rock bassist. He is best known as bassist with the Knack, who had a No. 1 US / No. 6 UK hit with "My Sharona". Since 2013 he has played bass with Mike Pinera's Classic Rock All-Stars and Missing Persons.
Prescott Niles. Prescott Niles had the privilege to have been born in New York City. His childhood dreams revolved around the world of baseball. His goal was to play shortstop for The New York Yankees. Prescott had a natural gift for the game.
The Knack was founded in 1978 with the original and classic lineup of Doug Fieger (lead vocals, rhythm guitar), Berton Averre (lead guitar, backing vocals), Prescott Niles (bass) and Bruce Gary (drums). It was this lineup that recorded the group's first three albums.

5. Apr. 2022 · Prescott Niles, the bassist who played the iconic opening riff on The Knack’s 1979 megahit “My Sharona,” was already a part of the New York music scene long before then. In the late 1960s, he was playing bass in various groups, such as MD and the Interns and The Boys Next Door.
Founding members Doug Fieger, Berton Averre, Bruce Gary and Prescott Niles sculptured a sound which was irresistibly familiar but at the same time unlike anything else which was playing on the radio. Its first performance, June 1, 1978, at the Whisky-A-Go-Go, was a sensation.
