While all semiotic codes are in a broad sense social codes (being based on social conventions), social codes can also be seen as forming a major group of codes, alongside textual codes and interpretive codes.
Social codes express both how democratic rules and norms create freedom and room for development, as well as room for strengthening or consolidating already existing visible and invisible power structures. Social codes are closely connected with the development of democracy.
The law enshrined in the Social Code aims to realise social justice and social welfare by way of social benefits, including social and educational support services. Its goal is to help. avert or compensate for special life burdens, including by helping people to help themselves.
