In den späten 1950er und den 1960er Jahren trat er zudem mit Tommy und Jimmy Dorsey, Count Basie und bei Jazz at the Philharmonic, sowie erneut mit Harry James und Duke Ellington. So spielte er 1956 auf Ellingtons Album A Drum is a Woman, aber auch 1965 beim Sacred Concert.
Louie Bellson was deemed “the world’s greatest musician” by Duke Ellington, “the epitome of musical talent and a very gifted composer and arranger” by Oscar Peterson, and “the best person I ever met” by Tony Bennett.
