The Bob Shots were a Belgian modern jazz band. They started playing swing, and around 1946 they moved to bop. They were probably the first bop band in Europe. Down Beat magazine recommended them in 1947. They recorded in Brussels in 1947, and in Paris in 1949. The Bob Shots served as a training ground for many Belgian jazz musicians.
Bob Shots (of The Bob Shots) was een Belgisch jazzorkest dat algemeen beschouwd wordt als het eerste nationale bop-orkest, en een van de eerste bop-bands van Europa. De Luikse band, die toen nog Pont d’Avroy heette, speelde aanvankelijk swing en evolueerde in 1946 naar bopmuziek, waarna de naam van de groep werd veranderd.
14. Juni 2019 · The Bob Shots fut l’un des tout premiers orchestres européens à jouer bebop dès 1947. En mai 1949, ils partagèrent d’ailleurs la scène du Festival de Paris avec Charlie Parker, Miles Davis et Tadd Dameron… Le saxophoniste américain Don Byas, qui résidait alors en Belgique, leur servit de mentor.
