History. The band was formed by drummer Kelly Nobles, bassist/singer Terry James Young and guitarist Andy Baldwin at Highland Junior High School in Bellevue, Washington in 1970. Interlake High School mate Rick Knotts joined the band in 1973. Rail won a best local band award from Seattle rock station KZOK-FM in 1978.
Benny Richard Knotts (May 23, 1951 – February 14, 1980) was an American ASA and NASCAR Winston Cup driver. The Paw Paw, Michigan [1] driver began his career in 1974 and raced in various stock car series for 6 years before he died in a crash at Daytona in 1980.

About Rail. '80s hard rockers Rail were one of the countless hard rock bands to taste the spotlight for a moment only to never get back to that place again. Vocalist and bassist Terry Young, guitarist/synth player Andrew Aldwin, guitarist Rick Knotts, and drummer Kelly Noble met while attending high school together in Washington.
