David Berman started his first band Ectoslavia in University with Stephen Malkmus and Bob Nastanovich. The band later evolved into Silver Jews where Berman remained the only constant member and chief songwriter. Between 2009 and 2017 he concentrated on his poetry, and returned to music in 2018 with his new band Purple Mountains.
