Billy Slais (name pronunciation BI-lee SLAYZ), is an American musician, who is part Cherokee Indian, a Vietnam Vet, and raised in Memphis, Tennessee, United States.
Shortly after the release of the 1991 greatest hits album, manager Bill Thompson decided to fire the group and told RCA that the band was done making records. The band was let go by RCA, and Starship became inactive. 1992–present: Starship featuring Mickey Thomas

24. Feb. 2017 · In addition to Elvin Bishop himself on guitar and vocals, the group featured on his recording was made up of bassist Fly Brooks, keyboardist Bill Slais, second guitarist Johnny Vernazza, drummer Donny Baldwin and vocalists Reni Slais and Mickey Thomas.

Bill Slais played in Elvin Bishop's band, as well as with Howard Calhoun, and has played with Solid Gold. Tony Rossini recorded several sides for Monument Records in the late 1960 and later teamed with Donna Wiess to form Tony & Terry and the Pirates.
Billy Slais was born and raised in Memphis, Tenn. He grew musically during the days of STAX/VOLT. His dad is a world class musician. Billy is a saxophonist, songwriter, arranger and keyboardist. He has played with Elvin Bishop, Starship ,did sessions with Tower of Power and a memeber of Cold Blood before moving to Reno.
