Next was formed in 1992 by brothers Terrence "T-Low" and Raphael "Tweety" Brown, in addition to Robert "R. L." Huggar. The trio was trained and managed by T-Low's godmother , Ann Nesby, during the group's formation. [1]
First, in 1992 Raphael (Tweety) and Terry (T-Low) Brown met Robert (R.L.) Huggar through the brothers’ uncle who was director of a local gospel choir. The trio then practiced at the home of T-Low’s godmother, Ann Nesby of gospel music’s Sounds of Blackness, who also trained and managed them.
The band originally featured members Robert “R.L” Huggar, Raphael “Tweety” Brown, and Terry “T-Low” Brown. They were signed to Arista Records in 1997 by KayGee of Naughty By Nature. Their debut album, Rated Next, was a moderate success.
