While studying in Oxford Ohio he became the drummer with the Lemon Pipers a psychedelic pop, bubblegum band from Cincinnati, Ohio known chiefly for their song “ Green Tambourine “, which reached No.1 on the Billboard chart in 1968.
The Lemon Pipers comprised drummer William (Bill) E. Albaugh (1946–1999), guitarist Bill Bartlett (born 1946), vocalist Dale "Ivan" Browne (born 1947), keyboardist Robert G. Nave (1944–2020), and bassist Steve Walmsley (born 1948), who replaced the original bass guitarist Bob "Dude" Dudek.

The Lemon Pipers were an American psychedelic rock band formed in Ohio in 1966. The original lineup consisted of Ivan Browne on vocals, Bill Bartlett on guitar, Steve Walmsley on bass, Bob Nave on keyboards, and Bill Albaugh on drums.
