Powell war Mitglied der Brian May Band und spielte auf Mays zweitem Soloalbum Back to the Light und der anschließenden Tour. Er ist somit auch auf dem Brian-May-Livealbum Live at Brixton Academy zu hören und gehörte auch bei Mays Album Another World (1998) mit zur Band.
