On the Third Day is the third studio album by Electric Light Orchestra (ELO), and the first to be recorded without input from Roy Wood. It was released in the United States in November 1973 by United Artists Records, and in the United Kingdom on 14 December 1973 by Warner Bros. Records.
17. Feb. 2017 · On the Third Day is a departure from ELO II and another step in the evolution of ELO turning into a hit machine later in the decade. Lynne went with a shorter song format here, but did not abandon the the instrumental prowess the band displayed on ELO II.

Jeffrey „Jeff“ Lynne, OBE (* 30. Dezember 1947 in Birmingham) ist ein britischer Musiker und Musikproduzent, vor allem bekannt als Gründungsmitglied des Electric Light Orchestra (ELO). Außerdem war er Mitglied der Bands The Idle Race, The Move und Traveling Wilburys .
As it turns out, Jeff Lynne was onto something with On The Third Day. Their first album had been an awkward alliance between orchestral music and Beatlesque pop songs, their second an overstacked cake that simply toppled over, but ELO finally found a way to make it work here.
