AVANTASIA entfernen sich hiermit immer mehr vom überbordenden Bombast der Anfangstage und präsentieren mit „The Wicked Symphony“ gediegenes Melodic Rock-Material, das nur noch ab und zu in etwas härtere Power bzw. Heavy Metal-Gefilde (Owens „Scales Of Justice“) eindringt.
Das tiefgründige und düster arrangierte "Crestfallen" geht fast als Dark-Metal-Track durch, bevor "Forever Is A Long Time" wieder mehr zum leichtfüßigeren Melodic Power Metal zurückkehrt. Bei beiden Songs darf man Jorn Landes Ausnahmestimme lauschen.
