Igor Volk (1937-2017) was a former Soviet cosmonaut in the Buran programme and a Hero of the Soviet Union. He flew on Soyuz T-12 in 1984 and tested various aircraft types at critical angles of attack.

Volk flew to the Salyut 7 space station in 1984 as part of his training for the Buran space shuttle, which was canceled before he could fly it. He also flew 13 missions in the OK-GLI, a ground-based simulator of the Buran, and was awarded the Hero of the Soviet Union.
16. Mai 2021 · Igor Volk was a test pilot, and was planned to be the Commander of the first Buran spaceflight. The rule introduced following the Soyuz 25 failure, insisted that all Soviet spaceflight must have at least one crew member who has been to space before.
