Dorothy Hill (1907–1997), geologist, was born on 10 September 1907 at Taringa, Brisbane, third of seven children of Robert Sampson Hill, an English-born draper, and his Queensland-born wife Sarah Jane, née Kington. Robert was later a director of the retail firm Allan & Stark Ltd.
